Why Are We So Afraid of Artificial Intelligence? And Why That’s a Mistake

AI: The Fear, the Opportunity, and the Choice That Defines Our Future

There’s a joke that has always amused me: “There are three kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who can’t.” It’s a classic play on words, but it makes a deeper point about how we categorize people. In Spain, we love splitting people into two groups too: those who like their Spanish omelette runny and those who like it firm, with onion or without, Harry Potter fans and those who couldn’t care less.

I’d like to add one more division to the mix: in this world, there are two types of people—those who question things and those who simply repeat what they hear without thinking. And I believe this metaphor fits perfectly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). There are those who fear it and those who embrace it.

Let’s dive into why so many resist AI, and why I believe this fear is misguided. Spoiler alert: if you’re one of those who fear AI, you might not like what I have to say. But hey, you’ve been warned. 😉

A Personal Journey Into AI

I’ll start with something personal. When I was a kid, I studied piano and dreamed of being a concert pianist. But that dream faded quickly when I realized I’d need to spend half my day practicing. Life is just too beautiful to be staring at piano keys while the world passes by outside the window.

Then, I became obsessed with becoming an astronaut. For about ten years, that dream carried me. But the thought of being trapped in a capsule, eating spirulina packets instead of enjoying a good plate of carbonara, and questioning whether we’ve really ventured out into the great unknown made me rethink. Add to that the theory that everything could just be a hologram—well, I decided to enjoy the cosmos through my imagination instead.

Next came math. I studied it seriously but found it dull—too much theory, not enough practical use. So, I traveled the world for a few years, soaking in different cultures and perspectives. When I returned, I began climbing the professional ladder, but something new started taking hold of my dreams: artificial intelligence.

The Algorithm That Changed Everything

About ten years ago, while playing a game I won’t name (to keep the secret of my algorithm), an idea struck me. I envisioned an algorithm capable of making incredibly intelligent decisions—decisions that took into account variables I hadn’t even considered. I tested it in my personal life, and let me tell you, the results weren’t always pleasant. When we’re young and immature, it’s hard to accept that the smartest decision often isn’t the one our heart wants.

I carried this algorithm in my mind for years but lacked the resources to build a proper database to support it. With the rise of AI tools, however, everything became much easier. That’s when I decided to create Neuromaind.

How AI Liberates Us

What I’ve realized is that AI has the power to free us from repetitive tasks that stifle creativity. I once worked at an engineering firm where every day was a copy-paste of the last—repeating the same process endlessly. Most of my coworkers never questioned whether things could be optimized or automated. They didn’t want to. Why? Because it felt like a threat to their comfort zone.

Imagine doing the same thing for 15 years, knowing deep down that you’re capable of more but choosing not to explore it. Comfort becomes a disguise for insecurity. In this context, AI wasn’t the enemy; it was an opportunity to evolve.

I realized that many people don’t fear AI itself; they fear what it represents—change, growth, and the need to challenge themselves. Yet, I firmly believe that if people could reconnect with their innate creativity and curiosity, they’d find not only motivation but genuine happiness in embracing these tools.

The Rise of the Superhumans

This isn’t about creating a divide between the “haves” and “have-nots.” It’s about recognizing that there are two types of people: those who tap into their potential and those who let it go dormant.

AI doesn’t create this division—it reveals it. The future will see a world split between “superhumans” who embrace AI to amplify their intelligence, creativity, and productivity, and the rest, who choose to remain stagnant. The choice of which group you belong to is entirely yours.

Let’s be clear: the world is changing whether we like it or not. The race has started, and many haven’t even left the starting line. If we don’t push ourselves to adapt, we’ll find ourselves looking back in regret, wondering why no one warned us.

The Optimist’s Perspective

Despite all this, I remain hopeful. Figures like Elon Musk constantly remind us that AI isn’t a threat—it’s a solution. It’s a tool that can revolutionize the way we work, think, and live.

AI isn’t here to replace us. It’s here to free us—to take over the mundane tasks that consume our time and mental energy, allowing us to focus on what truly matters: innovation, connection, and the pursuit of ideas that will shape the future.

So, where do you stand? Are you ready to embrace the possibilities of AI, or will you resist, clinging to a past that’s already slipping away? The choice is yours, but the clock is ticking.
